Why Emotional Intelligence matters in Tales of Nigerians

Emotional Intelligence is the ability to try as much as possible to comprehend, utilize and manage one’s emotions. Emotional Intelligence is also known as Emotional Quotient (EQ) and one of the core hallmarks of EQ is empathy.

As a community, Tales of Nigerians allow people from around the world with a greater number of people in Nigeria to connect and learn through their shared real life experiences.

We understand the important role Emotional Intelligence plays in our everyday life and this is why when Facebook enabled the option to run a subgroup in Tales of Nigerians for a limited period, we decided to create a subgroup that will help community members to better understand and manage their emotions. This we believe will improve the quality of life and interaction of members.

According to Daniel Goleman, an American psychologist who helped to popularize emotional intelligence, there are five key elements to it:

  • Self-awareness.
  • Self-regulation.
  • Motivation.
  • Empathy.
  • Social skills.

In the coming days in our subgroup; Developing Emotional Intelligence, we shall dissect these elements and provide you with resources to better identify, understand and utilize these elements in your own life.
